As I’ve mentioned in previous editions, lawyers loathe timekeeping. It’s a task that’s both tedious and terrifying—one part dull data entry, one part existential crisis over lost revenue. But what if your time entries could simply…write themselves? Enter PointOne, an A.I.-powered timekeeping solution designed to track every billable moment without the usual frustration. After a deep dive, including an exclusive walkthrough with its founder, it’s clear that PointOne is setting a new standard for A.I.-driven legal timekeeping.
Favorite law firm use cases: Capturing billable time across your entire desktop environment as well as mobile devices and A.I. generated detailed, human-like time entries that sync seamlessly with billing platforms.
Features & Functionality
The magic of PointOne lies in its “local environment capture.” Unlike other A.I. enabled time keeping competitors that track activity only in specific apps via integrations (think Outlook, Word, or Zoom), PointOne watches everything happening on your machine. Open a PDF in Preview instead of Adobe? No problem. Reviewing case law in Westlaw? Tracked. Editing a contract in Word while cross-referencing a clause in an e-mail? Captured. PointOne is dedicated to building a general solution that capture time across your entire desktop.
At the heart of PointOne is its Passive Auto-Capture feature. Once activated, the software runs quietly in the background, automatically tracking all work-related activities across emails, documents, calls, and web applications. This is accomplished by install of a widget that monitors relevant desktop usage. This data is then processed using advanced A.I. to segment each action into client-specific tasks, removing the need for constant manual time entry. This passive approach is a significant differentiator from tools that rely solely on direct software integrations. PointOne can tell when someone is reviewing emails in Outlook, whereas competitors can only see sent & received emails. PointOne can even tell the difference between editing a document, drafting a document from precedent, and reviewing a document. Even when the attorney has 10 things open at once. With auto-capture running, you can perform all your normal tasks on your desktop, and within minutes you will see a blank screen populated with time entries.

But what about those attorneys who don’t have the time to review time entires daily? For those moments when time tracking is forgotten or delayed, PointOne’s Retroactive Timekeeping shines. Users can select any date range, and the A.I. will reconstruct billable moments from past activity-mining emails, calls, and documents to ensure that no work goes unbilled. This retroactive capture is invaluable for busy attorneys who may not log time in real time.

A standout feature is PointOne’s A.I.-Generated Narratives. Where many competitors produce stilted or generic descriptions, PointOne crafts time entries that read as if written by a lawyer, complete with contextually accurate details and automatic assignment of UTBMS codes (for those firms that use them). This not only enhances the professionalism of invoices but also reduces billing rejections by meeting firm and client-specific guidelines. I was able to see the narrative generation in real time when I received a comprehensive demo from Co-Founder, Adrian Parlow and was highly impressed.

PointOne is designed for flexibility. Its Multi-Platform Integration ensures it works smoothly with leading legal and financial systems like Clio, Filevine, and QuickBooks, as well as enterprise-grade billing platforms. This broad compatibility means firms can deploy PointOne without overhauling their existing tech stack. Once your time entries have been created, it’s just an easy click to release your time entires to your billing platform of choice.

For lawyers who prefer a more hands-on approach, the Semi-Automatic Mode allows users to manually assign matters while still leveraging A.I. to handle the heavy lifting of narrative generation and time entry. This hybrid approach accommodates a wide range of workflows and personal preferences.
PointOne is designed for flexibility. This broad compatibility means firms can deploy PointOne without overhauling their existing tech stack. I was also shown the mobile app interface which is just as user friendly. PointOne has the capability to track your calls with additional VoIP integrations so you can capture time beyond just your desktop.

What I found very compelling about the product is its ability to generate time entries that sound like a human and are customized to each firm and lawyer. The product tailors the narratives based on past time entries so that we can emulate each lawyer’s specific voice. PointOne’s A.I. is also trained on your firm and/or client billing guidelines and enforces those guidelines when you generate entries, ensuring consistent and high quality time entries every time.
Pricing & Plans
Pricing details weren’t disclosed in our walkthrough as they are negotiated individually, based on law firm use case. Given its feature set, expect pricing in line with other AI-driven legal tech—likely per-user, per-month, with tiered plans based on firm size and integrations. For those interested, I’d highly recommend booking a demo so you can have a thoughtful pricing discussion with the team.
What Makes It A.I. Enabled?
PointOne doesn’t just capture time; it interprets it. The A.I. synthesizes activity across different platforms, assigns appropriate UTBMS codes, and writes narratives that actually sound human. Unlike competitors that rely on rigid templates, PointOne’s A.I. understands context, sequence, and intent—a crucial difference when billing hundreds of hours.
Security & Privacy
Given the sensitivity of client data, security is a major concern. PointOne encrypts captured data before sending it to the cloud for AI processing, minimizing the risk of exposure. While we didn’t get a deep dive into its security framework, its local-first approach means attorneys retain control over their data before it ever leaves their device. You own your own data as your data is segregated. And PointOne does not use user data to train large language models (LLMs). The company maintains zero data retention agreements with model providers, ensuring that your firm’s data is never retained or used to update AI models. But don’t take my word for it. PointOne features one of the most thoughtful and user friendly security pages I have ever seen. It should make any IT professional and lawyer feel safe.
The Judgement
PointOne is what AI-enabled timekeeping should have been all along: effortless, comprehensive, and flexible. Unlike competitors that capture time in bits and pieces, Point One tracks everything, ensuring that every billable moment is accounted for. PointOne offers a robust, intelligent timekeeping and billing solution that stands out for its passive auto-capture, rich narrative generation, retroactive tracking, and broad integration capabilities. Its strong privacy stance-guaranteeing that user data is never used to train LLMs-makes it a trustworthy choice for law firms seeking to modernize their operations without compromising client confidentiality. PointOne is a game-changer. For firms tired of lost revenue, it’s a no-brainer.
